When I began reading this series I found the story of Pa Salt, Ma, Atlantis, handsome Christian and 7 adopted daughters fantastical and cliched. However I persevered and was soon drawn in to the historical stories in the books which were well researched and well written. At times it seemed like there were two authors at work. Unfortunately i have found the sixth book very disappointing and struggled to retain enough interest to finish it. Electra's storyline was too predictable and Cecily's story in Kenya and the US was colourless in comparison to the previous books despite being set in magnificient Kenya. I am interested in how all the storylines and loose ends will be tied up in the final book but having read the sixth I am not confident i will be satisfied. I really enjoyed this series and really looked forward to this story. Unfortunately this story was a mess. First of all Electra was not the most likable character and this story reinforced that idea. Add to that a numerous other characters that were just basically touched on but had big issues: drug abuse, alcohol abuse, suicides, murder that was never solved, affairs. Throw in an assistant who was in love with a man of a different religion and she was not allowed to have a relationship with in her religion, a friend who had too many face lifts and was getting a California divorce, a boyfriend who wanted to teach Electra how to be black, a newly found grandmother who was a civil rights leader yet wasn't a great mother.... Not to mention, the woman who found and raised Electra's grandmother who was dumped, got pregnant, got a convenience marriage, left him for 23 years to return to US, and then got back with him only to die. To me, this story was a confusing jumble and I was so disappointed! The "magic" of the other stories in the series was missing in this one.
